GRADING FAQ
What will students be assessed on?
We will be exploring all of the 5 Cs (see above), but focus primarily on communication. Students will be assessed on their performance in the three modes of communication: Interpretive, Interpersonal and Presentational.
In Spanish 1, we will build towards assessing the interpretive mode via authentic native speakers.
In Spanish 2PAP, we will begin assessing the interpretive mode via authentic native speakers.
What percentage of the overall grade is summative (tests and projects)?
60% of the grade will be test grades. Additionally, these will be broken down by standard, and entered in the gradebook separately. There might be a test addressing 3 standards, so 3 different test grades will be entered in Skyward.
What about formative (daily) grades?
40% of the grade will be announced quizzes. Quizzes can cover grammar or vocabulary, and could assess listening, reading, writing and/or speaking. There will be approximately 1 quiz per week. The lowest quiz grade will be dropped at the end of every 9 week grading period. Quizzes CANNOT be reassessed. Other formative grades (such as class activities, participation, worksheets, pop quizzes etc.) will RARELY factor into the grade in this category. Sometimes these grades will be entered into Skyward under the 0% Formative category.
What is the reassessment policy?
Students will have 1 opportunity maximum to reassess each test for full credit, but will figure out quickly it's best to prepare to do well the first time. They may choose to reassess only certain sections, so they do not have to reassess on sections they did well on.
Can students earn extra credit?
No, students will not be able to earn any extra credit in this course.

- Students will only have 4 specific opportunities (with options before and after school) to reassess the week after the test has been physically returned.
- Students will not be allowed to reassess if they do not turn in their evidence of new learning (corrections and an activity that demonstrates new learning) by the time they want to reassess.
- If, for whatever reason, a student is unable to take the original test by the time it is physically returned to students, then that student may lose their reassessment opportunity, and will likely take the 1st reassessment as their test instead of the original test that was already returned to students.
Can students earn extra credit?
No, students will not be able to earn any extra credit in this course.
